Stockholm is without a doubt the nicest city in Scandinavia, Ill actually put it in my top 5 in Europe so far in terms of overall city beauty. It has self proclaimed itself as the Capital of Scandinavia which Copenhagen has disputed, but Im gonna have to agree with Stockholm hands down. The city is comprised of about half a dozen or so islands that are all close and connected with bridges and is on the coast of the Baltic Sea. All of the views of the city are very nice, especially with the water all over the place. Our hostel offered free pasta, so we had pasta for dinner...pasta for breakfast...and even stayed long enough for pasta for lunch, all penne and Im sick of pasta but it was cheap. We didnt do any museums in Stockholm because all of Scandinavia is very expensive and none of them were free. But I was fine with just walking around and seeing the city all day. Something that really sucks about Scandinavia, is that Finalnd is the only country on the Euro. Denmark, Sweden, and Norway all have their own currencies so we have to deal with estimating how much money to pull out in every country and then exchanging what we have left over. It seems petty, but its really annoying, plus all of the ratios are about 1 to 10 so its confusing when you pay 50 krona for a sandwich.
Now, on to the most important part and the jackpot find of our trip. Our Eurail apparently includes free cruises on the Baltic Sea between Sweden and Norway. Not ferries like it says on the Eurail, but cruise boats with 13 decks. Completely free. We had our own room, with shower and everything. The boat has a casino, movie theater (we watched the Simpsons Movie), bars, clubs, everything. We were in shock for about 4 hours when we saw our boat and got on board. There were free shows and performances in the theatre, I cant even explain how big of a find this was. Scandinavia is the most expensive place in Europe so the hostels are about 25 to 30 euro per night, but now we can skip the hostels and just stay on cruise ships for free, unbelievable. This will not be our last cruise. If I run out of money towards the end of the trip, Im coming back here and sailing between Stockholm and Helsinki on cruise boats for free until my Eurail expires. So far, best deal of the trip. Also, duty free stores, so cheap tax free wine and Cuban cigars. Wow.
