Oktoberfest. In a word...wow.
Definitely what I expected, but way more intense. The first thing that suprised me was the amount of lederhosen, everybody from Germany was wearing them and even a lot of the other Europeans. And all the girls wore those traditional dresses which actually look really good on the girls unlike the lederhosen. I would have bought a pair but they cost about 500 euro, no idea why they're so expensive. Not very many Americans over there, pretty much entirely Europeans and Australians. The Australians are everywhere, I mean everywhere, they come in force.
The first day we went to the Hofbrau tent which is American, Aussie, New Zealand, "friendly". I don't think I heard any German barely the first day, it had to have been 80% Australian, which is 8000 people in a 10,000 person tent. Our table had some girls from Miami (OH) and some guys from New Zealand, we later found out we were blessed. We got at the tent at 7 AM to get a seat, got in at 10, and the beer wasn't tapped till noon. It was so packed, we had to push our way into a table, let me rephrase that, I had to push for a table. It was opening day so there was a short festival and it also meant that there were about 3000 more people standing without a table in addition to the 10,000 with seats, it was packed and you have to have a seat to get served. Anyway, we hated all the girls at our table, they were the stuck up sororiety type, I almost had to leave the table to get away from them. But the New Zealand guys were really fun. Once the beer came the Miami girls finally stopped complaining about everything and after two beers most of them were under the table anyway so we had plenty of space. Two German dudes (finally) came up and they didn't speak any English but I was actually able to hold a several hour conversation with them. We've got some pictures of them. Anyway, those Australians are the craziest dudes you'll ever meet, I can't explain over the internet but ask me in person and I might give you some stories.
My times running out but I'll update more later.
