Barden's Great Aussie Adventure 2015
Zach had a good time with some other boys playing with the goats in the shearing shed. We then went to Kalbarri National Park where we saw a goanna and a really interesting beetle walking across the road that looked like it had some intense armour.
We did the short walk to Nature's Window which was only 1km return on a cemented path. There were great views over the winding river and lots of wildflowers. Nature's Window is pretty spectacular as are the views and surrounding rock formations.
This is one of my favourite national parks which is easily accessible and well maintained without being overcrowded.
We then did the Z bend lookout. Also an easy walk to a lookout over section of the river which forms a Z, hence the name. Many interesting wildflowers along the way and a lizard. This lookout was also fantastic.
At both of these walks there are the option of doing longer walks down along the river banks but we chose not to do them this time.
After lunch we drove through to Kalbarri which looks like a nice seaside town. The boys are not in a very good mood with Liam’s teething bothering him again so we decide to camp nearby so we can explore tomorrow. 20km south of town is Wagoe Chalets and camping which is where we decided to stay. It is an awesome property that overlooks the ocean. There are only 2 other groups camping here and they have a free washing machine so it's quite good. The only downside and it's a big one is the millions of flies! Repellent didn’t work nor did smoke from the fire so the fly hats came out again. It’s a shame because it would be a great spot without them. We saw a pod of whales in the afternoon.
