Barden's Great Aussie Adventure 2015
Due to our camper door being on the opposite side it means we face our neighbours. It hasn’t been a problem yet and this time we are next to another family with a young boy so it works well. Liam had a bike buddy and the boys had a good time playing together.
This caravan park was apparently voted the worst in Australia 10 yrs ago. I find it hard to believe especially being in a location like this. This year it has been voted best in Australia. The staff have been excellent and it is nice campground and facilities.
With the popular sunset cruise being booked out for days we chose to do the lunch cruise today. A bus picked us up and took us down to the boat which was a very comfortable powercat. The tour guide Josh was great and the other staff were very good with the kids. We travelled about one third of the lake where we stopped for an optional quick swim and lunch. The boys had a splash on the rocks and others drank beer floating on pool noodles. A buffet lunch was served with fresh fish cooked on board before we headed back to shore. Zach was given a special job by the Captain to hand a postcard to each guest on board. The bus took us to the other side of the dam wall on the Ord River before returning to the caravan park. The dam wall is quite small in comparison to the water it holds. It was built from 1969-1971 and involved the biggest non-nuclear blast in the world at the time. The lake currently holds 18 times that of Sydney Harbour and if the dam wall were to break then it would take 4 years for the lake to drain!
