Barden's Great Aussie Adventure 2015
We set up camp at Wintersun Caravan Park which is one of the bettter ones we have been too. The staff are great, good amenities, nice grassy sites (we got a huge one), a good playground for the kids and free WiFi that actually works at a decent speed.
We then took a drive around town and saw the One Mile Jetty. You can either walk or catch a train along it but I wasn't too interested in doing so. We dropped by Chinaman Pool which is apparently a popular swimming hole but it didn't look too inviting to us.
We then drove over to the Overseas Telecommunications Centre (OTC) Satellite Earth Station. The original satellite was opened in 1966 and was also used to transmit the first television pictures from Australia to London. In 1969 a second larger antenna, almost 30m in diameter, took over the job of the original antenna in relaying NASA communications.
We also drove through the Plantations which I was initially looking forward to. We were expecting road side food stalls to buy lots of fresh produce and instead the roads and houses were uninviting with only a couple of "shops" that you had to drive up to and then enter a run down shed. We tried to get some fresh seafood from the trawlers but due to a recent fatality with a fellow fisherman, the trawlers weren't operating today. So the much advertised food trail of the region was a disappointment.
