Yesterday was quite a lazy day... although waking up at 5am!
took a nice gentle strole towards town and the lagoon, on the way however saw MILLIONS of crabs, some quite big 1s all on the beach and until they moved very much invisible from amazing camoflage! a rather gd reason not to venture on the beach! i then saw signs with suggestions for not going on the beach 'Caution water contains jelly fish... crockdiles are known to venture onto the beach' good enough reason for me not to go on it! hehe
although it was nice to finally go in some more australian water when we ventured into the lagoon, a man made ginate salt water pool which over looks the beach and sea which is pretty kl! the water however... cool is not the word! it was F***ing freezing! lol
Today however an early start having to catch first bus at 7 15 although of course with my lack of sleeping out here, i was awake to hear the alarm! however this was definatly worth an early start! by 7 45 i was boarding a boat to go out to the Great Barrier Reef to do an introductory dive and snorkel!
The diving came first and although very distracted when putting all the gear on it hadnt sunk in what i was about to do! although i was left in owe as i slid into the water to be met with fish every colour of the rainbow! Breathtaking! before too long the guide had pointed out loads of clown fish (Nemo's) and i had touched a few big Clad Shells! absolutely amazing!
Although soon after came a rather daunghting sign, the guide signaling a Shark! At first i was slightly nervous although when i saw it, i was not scared at all! just amazing at the beauty of it as it glided around in white sand and reefs below!
I went out for a second time this time snorkeling at a slightly different part of reef, far nicer with even more multi-coloured fish. This time when i was encountered by a Shark alot closer (2m maybe) i was armed witha camera :) incase i wasnt able to live to tell the tale! hehe
Although i had gone fra too trigger happy that when right at the end i saw a HUGE Mourie Wrasse (not sure of sleeping and known was Walley) i had run out of pictures, but this thing was incredible! it was sooo big but seemed soo docile and the scuba instructors were able to touch it!
the sun finally for the first time while being out here affected me! and although im pretty red, i definatly dont think iv burnt too bad :) although does look impressive! was amazing that the sun hadnt done anything until today though!
tommorow i head out into the rainforest to start my project finally :)
