Tournon is a small city along the Rhone. We took an hour waking tour where the guide struggled to show us much of interest. It was Sunday morning and the streets were pretty deserted. We spent the morning on a walking tour of Vienne, a city of about 30,000 people on the banks of the Rhone and was a major city in the Roman empire. It has many well preserved ruins including an amphitheater built into the hillside. It seats about 10,000 and is still used for an annual jazz festival. The morning was spent on a bus/walking tour of Lyon. A large basilica, which sits on a hill above the city, was our 1st stop. We had a great view of the city and the Saone and Rhone rivers. Today was a full day of touring in the Beaujolais and Burgundy wine country. Our 1st stop in the morning was to the Chateau des Ravatys winery in Beaujolais. We took a tour and then had a tasting in their wine cellar. After the tour we stopped for a while in the town of Beaujeu before taking a scenic ride from Beaujolais to Burgundy. We had to get up early to catch a 7:15 van to the train station. There were 12 of us going from Paris to Lyon. The train station, like in the rest of Europe, was very busy. We had to wait about an hour for our train. Viking had purchased 1st class tickets on the upper level and all of us sat together. The train ride was wonderful.
