We had a lovely cosy night sleep and woke up quite early! We got ready and set off to explore again! It was wet again but quite fresh! We walked down to Darling harbour via Hyde park again! It was already getting busy in the shops as all the crazy people raided the sales!
Darling harbour was lovely and there was lots going on and we saw the replica of Captain Cooks ship outside the maritime museum! We enjoyed walking around and watching the monorail fly past! On boxing day a boat race begins in the harbour in Sydney which ends in Hobart in Tasmania. We were hoping to watch this set sail so enquired in the tourist information about where it went from. We were told that it was a harbour about 30 mins walk from Darling harbour so we set off to ensure we didn't miss it! We battled with yet more people in the shopping areas and made it down there just as it was raining again!! We looked around expecting lots of people to already be there but there were only a few people around and some fishermen! After asking a security guard he advised us that it was the harbour by the Opera house (circular quay), so we made our way, rather swiftly, over to the harbour! We arrived at about 12.55 to find the boats had already set sail and were in the distance! There were lots of people around and looking in the direction of the boats so we're still unsure where they went from, but we missed them!!
We walked around the harbour again and had lunch in a nice pub! We then went further into the rocks area and round to the harbour bridge. Its a lovely area to walk around, with cobbled streets and small shops and cafés. We walked across the bridge and back and had a lovely view down the harbour. It was cool to see the structure up close and you can climb it but you have to pay $200 to do so!! There were so many boats out on the water, we counted at least 20 at one point! We were also able to eye up the good spots for NYE!
From the bridge we wondered through town, mooched in some of the shops and headed back to the hostel! It was nice to be out and about again after a lazy day yesterday, and it seemed so fresh and crisp in the air!
