We managed to get going fairly early for once and headed towards Sydney! It was a fair drive and parts were quite busy. Some parts were lovely driving through though. We stopped in Parramatta at the tourist information to get some more information on the Blue Mountains and made our way towards them.
We stopped in Glenbrook which was further along for lunch and to plan our route and off we set! The weather had been lovely and sunny by we noticed it gradually getting darker and more cloudy! It wasn't long before the rain started, then the lightening and then the thunder and we were experiencing an Australian thunderstorm! The rain was fairly heavy and made it hard to see the lines on the road but it eventually eased! It had just about stopped by the time we got to our first stop which was the Wentworth falls.
For the first time since arriving, we wore our trainers and headed down a track for a bushwalk to a lookout overlooking the falls. We stopped mid way to look at a smaller set of falls and Mark went off to explore further down. He came back looking very sorry for himself, and i'm afraid to say that the first aid kit was required! He had slipped on some wet rocks and slid down part of the waterfall! He was soaked and very muddy and had a few grazes! Luckily he managed to save his sunglasses and the camera which was lucky! Once I had picked myself up off the floor from laughin so much, we carried on further down the track to see the waterfalls properly, and they were very pretty. Unfortunately its hard to compare waterfalls when you've seen the Niagara Falls, but these were still very beautiful.
We then continued further into the park and unfortunately saw the aftermath of a car crash. It was on a small road in a housing estate so not where you would expect, but still they can happen anywhere I suppose!
Our next stop was at honeymoon lookout, which just looked out across the mountains. It is similar to the grand canyon in that some of it is level and it is almost carved out below, hard to explain but the photos should demonstrate what I mean better! Then there are the mountains in the background with such an amazing blueness to them!
From here we made our way to echo point which again is a lookout and a good one for seeing the 'three sisters' rock formation. It was cool to see and we would have liked to have done a bushwalk down to them but it was getting late in the day and we still had to find a camp site. We admired for a while but it was quite busy so we left them to it.
We managed to find a campsite just down the road and parked up just as the rain started again! We watched from the shelter of the camper as all those who were sat out or in tents rushed around to gather their stuff up! hehehe!
We were going to go and explore some more but the rain put us off. Instead we planned tomorrows day, had dinner, played cards, made a draughts game and played it! Mark cheated and won though! hmmmm!! It has been quite windy and cold this evening..not impressed!
