1 week till xmas!!
Neither of us slept particuarly well as we were both cold in the night! The evenings have been getting much cooler over the last week and last night was particularly nippy!
We packed up and headed towards Port Macquarie. We wanted the tourist info but as usual, we couldn't find it! The signs always seem to stop after a while and nowhere near it either! We eventually found our way and enquired about a few things. We then explored the town centre which was your typical Australian town and walked along the river. We had a mooch in an English sweet shop but weren't prepared to pay 5x the price at home for choc, as tempting as it may have been! From there we popped to the library to use the internet. We thought we would spend some of the afternoon on the beach but as luck would have it, it had clouded over when we wanted to go and there were a few dribbles of rain! Typical! We had lunch overlooking the coast, hoping that the sun would reappear but no such luck. Instead we started to make our way further south. We stopped at the koala hospital as they were feeding the koalas and giving a talk about them. They were very adorable and some of them would remain in the hospital for life as they couldn't cope on their own now. There was one who was 23 years old, and they believe that she is the oldest koala living! They are the only hospital for koalas and only survive on fundrasing and donations and can take in 200 - 300 koalas a year! We even got to see a mum with a joey on her back! Very cute! I am now even more adamant that I am going to have one!! Marks not convinced but he is starting to fall for them too!!
From the koala hospital we continued to head south and stopped in Taree for the night. It turned out to be a miserable evening, very dark and cloudy and raining! We felt just at home!
Forgot to mention how we have seen a few kookaburras! One at the hospital today and one while driving the other day! Mark is being favoured by the bugs again, especially the mozzies! He researched them and has a particular grudge against them now, and even more so as he reacts to the bites! Odd! We're both fed up of the flies too. The last few days they seem to have been everywhere!! It wouldn't bother us if they didn't always try and land on your face! Grrr! We see lots of shelled bugs but have seen two particularly ugly bugs, who were rather huge! Managed to take a pic of one so you shall see what I mean!
