Today is a public holiday, there are a lot of public holidays in May - one last week, one this week and yes one next week. As this one is on a Wednesday and is therefore not attached to a weekend I am spending it in Chbar Morn.
After a lazy breakfast at my favourite restaurant I decided to take Marc out to the lake to the south of town where I thought I would go for a walk. Sun cream on, helmet in place, Marc warmed up and ready to go so what did I do - I turned right instead of left. What, I said to myself, are you doing? I replied that I thought we would go in the opposite direction and as that was the part of myself that had control of Marc off we went. We went about 10km along a well made road and it was pretty, rice fields, pom-pom trees and several small villages. I found one lake that I may go swimming in and several pagodas that I may visit some time.
I had just about decided that we had gone far enough when just ahead I saw that the road went up a slope and turn sharply right, with a turning left. I just knew something special was over that slope and I was right. It was a lake that seemed to go on for ever.
One of the reasons I am really beginning to love Kampong Speu is that you have to look for things to see. Pailin was beautiful and from the first moment I could see that. Kampong Speu is not - at least Chbar Morn and the journey from PP isn't. However so far every single journey I have taken on or off highway 4 has led to something special so it just goes to show - seek and you will find!!
