Singapore has been great. Arrived at the hotel about 2.30 which left plenty of time to walk down to the Marina Sands Hotel to watch the departing of light - sadly it was very cloudy so sunset seems to be the wrong term. The views from the top were just amazing as you can see right over the bay one way and then the city the other. The parked container ships waiting for a birth filled the bay and were referred to as the car park by us all.
Saturday was spent on our feet - Jean implied that it was my fault and that I dragged them around when they could have been relaxing. My view is that we were only here for a weekend so lets go!! The walk to the Gardens in the Bay was lovely. We went through one of the local parks and arrived at Boat Quay- a row of older buildings overlooking the river just before it goes into the bay. We decided that we would return for dinner and went on through the business area. They air condition the open space outside!!
It had started to rain so we went into a hotel overlooking the inner harbour - very posh but worth it. After that it was just a short walk around to the gardens. The two domes are amazing- better even than the Eden Project in Cornwell. The first was full off plants from around the world and the second was a cloud forest and consisted of a waterfall. Throughout there were sculptures made from different materials but generally wood and often drift wood. We actually spent the whole day just wandering around the whole area.
The evening was spent eating in Boat Quay and then walking the bay again as there is a light festival in March. It was all about sustainability so everything had been made useing recycled stuff. We had watched it from the top of the hotel the night before and had been disappointed but we had been looking at it from the wrong angle. It was really clever and well worth the sore feet. We gat a mad taxi home - taxi wasn't mad, driver was!! Jean said it was to make me feel at home. As Singapore could not be further from Cambodia in every way one mad taxi driver isn't enough!!
Great weekend I will be back - I hope.
