We arrived in Kampong Chhnang in a rainstorm and I had just resigned myself to a boring afternoon when Marcell arrived on his Motto and invited me for a coffee. It stopped raining so we decided to be tourists and went to the floating villages.
To get down to the boat we had to climb down a ladder on to a pier that was more under the water than on it. After we had settled ourselves on our 3 inch high seats, made comfortable by putting our life jackets on them, we were off (in blazing sunshine and no sun cream!!)
The boat had one of those engines that sounds like a lawn mower and a propeller on a long pole. Once we reached the villages though the engine was turned off and oars were used, so we just floated between the "houses" and boats.
It was just great.
