On Wednesday it was International Women's Day. I don't like days like this as it almost makes it feel that you only consider women on one day a year. However I was invited to a celebration for the teachers who were also women at a local primary school's new library. The libary is fab - no books yet but it would take pride of place in any school in England let alone Cambodia - I will definately go back and see how it progresses. The celebradtion started at 7am (cooler) and I was given a breakfast of sweet bread. I then sat through 2 hours of speeches - the teacher beside me could speak English and she said she wasn't translating one of them as he just loved the sound of his own voice - the same the world over!!
Yesterday I started an English conversation group - it was such fun. I suspect this will be the way I get through to the most people as I am slipping monitoring, assessment and leadership into most sessions!!
It is now 8am on Friday and I am not sure how much work will be done today as the POE are hosting an inter-school football competition.
Since I arrived at work teams and their supporter have been arriving - by truck. It does make you wonder about the one seat, one seat belt rule!! There are as many girls as boys so it will be interesting to see how many girl matches there are. I know there are some because my office is the girls' changing room.
Local people are making the most of it as the sugar cane woman has turned up along with several other stalls that are selling drinks and snacks. I have no idea how these people stay so slim!!
I just hope it is all day so that I can get a picture (my camara is at home!) It actually continued for two days - pictures will be uploaded into the Kampong Speu folder as soon as I have wi-fi as pictures are on Ipad!!
