Today I saw a good lesson.
It did not start well - as we walked in the room the teacher walked out and my heart sank. "Here we go again!!"I thought. But no he had run out of chalk.
Grade 3 - Mathematics - The lesson was a revision lesson on what they knew about adding, subtraction, multipication and division. It moved along at a great pace with all children taking part - using individual boards. The level of work would have been appropriate for a year 3/4 class in England - as they were using 3 digit numbers with carrying etc.
Here's something I didn't know they set out long division differently from us. Taught it (or at least revised it ) by saying you take this away from that - so not sure children fully understand what division is - but they all got the right answer. Reminded me that that was the way I was taught long division.
The classroom would make you weep (better than alot I've seen so I am past weeping) but the learning was great and what really matters, a well resourced room or bright eager kids!!
Back in PP to discuss my next adventure (taking on 2 more provinces) - I really should learn to say NO!!
