Woohoo Loro Parque day. The day started badly with Edward falling and cracking his head on the wooden door frame which made him feel a bit sick and put our day out in doubt. He soon perked up though so we set off and stopped regularly to check he was ok.
When we got to the north the clouds were hovering just above the motorway making it difficult to see the signs - we hoped the pilots flying into tenerife north airport had better technology!! Out to sea the clouds were very dramatic and at one point we had a little rain, such a contrast to the weather we experienced on the way up.
By the time we got to Loro Parque the weather was perfect again. The kids got bright yellow hats for 1 euro which protected them from the sun and made them harder to loose. We saw fish, gorillas and had our photo taken with parrots before heading into Penguin Island where you travel on a horizontal escalator around an island which replicates the current conditions in the arctic....so bizarre in the middle of tenerife.
We stopped for crisps and Pepsi (lunch) then headed to the Sealion and Dolphin shows. After that we looked at lots of different animals and the kids played in a treetop playground. I dragged them on a mini roller coaster (well dragged Kayla, Ed had clambered aboard before I'd finished suggesting it!). Kayla's concern quickly left and she spent the rest of the day begging for another go.
We checked out some more animals including a shark tunnel and beautiful white tigers then went to see the Orca show. By this point most people had gone home so the show was pretty much just off us. We sat just in the splash zone and ended up getting splashed by a cheeky orca, some people to our right got soaked through though.
We stayed till early evening having seen just about every inch of the park. The kids had a ball but were exhausted when we got back to the car and Ed fell asleep. The late departure meant tea was just before 9pm on the balcony but it was still sunny and 27c so felt earlier....not an ideal routine but hey we're on holiday :)
Think we'll all sleep well tonight and tomorrow is likely to be a lazy one.
