Today we went to the Uffizi and it was so overwhelming! I felt like my brain was on overload - seeing all of the amazing works I've studied and read in person one after the other was incredible. Unfortunately I couldn't take photos - I idid find this out though after snapping one of Giotto's Enthroned Madonna and Child. My favorite part was of course, the Botticelli room. I had no idea how large Primavera and Birth of Venus, etc, really were. All of the works were so much more beautiful in person than seeing in text books, the colors were so bright, and I couldn't get over how sparkle-y the gold leaf was! After class we walked around the market, and the food market - I bought a lot of fresh groceries and I bargained for a leather purse - I talked them down from 45 euro to 25 :) I was going to wait until later to do shopping, but my purse I brought conviniently decided to break, so i was forced to buy a new purse haha. I'm still getting pretty confused and lost - everytime I think I remember how to get somewhere, I get lost. I have found specific landmarks though to help - I get really excited when I see the linen store because I know I'm close to my place, and the google map application on my blackberry is an absolute LIFE SAVER - seriously, I think I'd be in Africa right now if it weren't for that.
