Buono Sera! (good evening!) Today we finally got to go to the Accademia, to see Michelangelo's David! I wish so much that I could have taken pictures, but it was not allowed. I always knew that the David was very large, but I had no idea just how HUGE it really was! It was so impressive - I literally walked around it for 30 minutes. The detail was another thing that struck me - there were even veins sculpted in the hands, etc. Pretty cool! I also got to see Michelangelo's Bound Captives (the sculptures that were unfinished - they look like the figures are trying to "escape" from the stone/marble - also very very cool!). After touring the rest of the museum (other Byzantine and Renaissance art, and a cool musical instrument section), we had the rest of the afternoon free. I went to the market area near my apartment to do a little window-shopping by myself. It was nice, and much-needed. Sometimes, living with 4 other girls, sharing a room with 1 of them, and constantly being with everyone else on trips and in museums, it can be a little overwhelming. So I decided I would spend some quality time with myself, for the sake of my sanity, haha. After doing a little window shopping and walking around the Duomo and Cathedral, I walked over to the the Piazza della Signoria - basically just a large square area with cool places to eat and little shops, and a carousel. Theres always people playing music in the pizza too - from opera to classical to contemporary Italian. It's not far at all from my place, so I enjoy going there often. I got a coke "light" (same as diet coke i guess, they just think "light" sounds better than "diet" haha) and I sat on the bench by the carousel and just people watched. It was so nice to just sit and chill out - I think I'm still trying to catch my breath from the weekend in Venice! Eventually I walked home, skyped with mom and dad :) and went and got chinese with most of my roommates. Im glad I got to skype with mom and dad - it made me feel much better and a little less homesick :). The chinese restaurant was...an experience. I definitely don't think I'll be eating any chinese for a while, to make a long story short, haha.
Now, I am basically just winding the day up - I need to do some reading for tomorrow, and I'd like to finish writing some postcards :) So, I will have to say Arrivederci! I hope you all have a wonderful day, and know that I miss and love you all very much!
