This is going to be short and sweet - because I'm pretty exhausted from the day. We got up early today to go on a trip to San Gimignano and Siena for the day. San Gimignano is such a neat little place! It's an old medieval town - so when you walk up to it, it looks like something out of a movie. We walked around there for a while and had lunch - and then it was on to Siena! I had heard so many great things about Siena, and it was such a cute little Italian town, I only wish we weren't so rushed for time. We had a little walking tour from a woman from Siena, and it was very interesting learning about the history and the rivalry with Florence. We didn't get to make it to a lot of the places we were supposed to go - because the tour went over, and other things like that, but I did get to see Lorenzetti's work on the walls in Room of Peace in the Palazzo Publico of Siena: "Allegory of Good Government" and "Allegory of Bad Government" and their "Effects in the Country / City". It was such an interesting work - all of Renaissance work is pretty much religious, but this was one of the few works that was not. We also went to the Siena Cathedral - which was incredible! They originally wanted to build a bigger one to compete with Florence, but settled with a smaller one. However, since it was smaller, they spent more money on decoration - and boy was it decorated! We were allowed to take pictures in the Cathedral, but not of Lorenzetti's work. After seeing all of that, we headed back to the bus and came back to Florence. After running around outside and being in the scorching heat, I really just get wiped out. I decided to just come back, get in bed and skype with mom and dad, and then with cilla, and then go to bed early. I'm trying to drink enough water, and take vitamins, but by the end of the week these days just take their toll on me, and with no air conditioning in our apartment either, taking a cold shower is as good as it gets, haha. So, I'm going to get some sleep, and get to feeling better so I can make the best out of the last week and a half here! I love you all, and I will talk to you soon!
