We wandered the township to find the most interesting shop - The Station Store run by Kinnon & Co. The beef cattle owners opened the shop in town which included tearooms and an outback show. Attendants were all dressed in period clothing and purchases made in the tea rooms were on an honesty basis. Catch up day today. With washing and food shopping done we headed off to the Stockman's Hall of Fame. There were many interesting life stories and artefacts to see including a display of old medical equipment and a full sized Clean Air aeroplane which had been part of the flying doctor service.

Today's journey saw us pass through Windorah, Jundah and Stonehenge. It was interesting to read that Stonehenge is one of three areas chosen by the Defence Department for Over the Horizon radar initiative which helps guards Australia's coastline. Arriving in Longreach, we booked into the caravan park for a two night stay with more washing, restocking the fridge, freezing water bottles and organising meals for the next few days whilst heading to Mt Isa. We hit the road again around lunchtime, headed for Longreach. Beautiful landscape which seemed to change colour and foliage. Of course we had to collect samples of the red dirt along the way. This leg we have seen the most wildlife with lots of wedged tail eagles, pigs, blue flyer kangas, bid red kangas, brolgas and a goanna. We travelled past the Rain Serpent at Beetoota and decided to look for a bush camp. Best bush camp ever - we even had a movie night ...

Hitting Big Red was full of laughs. Richard, Steve and Rochelle all conquered the Big Red dunes with Tom also having a drive down the dune. Of course, Samuel thought it was like the beach and just rolled up and down the sand dunes. He was finding red sand for days - even inside his ears! The surfing didn't quite work but he gave it a jolly good go. We had many laughs watching the two boys try and surf down only to end up rolling.
