Today we spent the day by the pool, trying to top up our tans, but it is so hot in Bangkok at the moment!
Tonight was the opening ceremony for songkran so we went out at about 4.30 to grab some stuff from 7/11 and quickly realised that we had made a mistake going out unarmed! We ended up bumping into Mark, who we had met on our first night in Bangkok and said we would be back for a drink once we had got our water guns, which we had bought this morning.
We sat at the bar we had met Mark at for hours, mainly in their designated 'dry zone', having a catch up and watching the madness that had started a day early!
The whole main road of Khao San had been cordoned off as the princess was coming to oversee the opening ceremony. This meant everything calmed down a little bit as the military police were around to make sure everything went smoothly. Me and Shane decided to go and get some food and headed off, but it was impossible to get to the other side of the road and where the stage had been set up you couldn't by any further up the street! We found somewhere to have something to eat and when we realised everyone had started up the water fights again we figured the ceremony had finished!
After food we heads out to get properly involved! We went back to the first bar but Mark had left, although we stayed there anyway! It was so crazy, we stayed out till 11 mainly at the bottom end of the street engaging in water fights with random people, before going for a walk to through the crowds further up the streets, then heading back soaking wet!
Tomorrow it starts properly, so I can only imagine what it will be like!
