Tongariro National Park
The activity on offer here was called the Tongariro Crossing, me and Odette had both heard it was a really good thing to do because of the amazing views, we thought that it was some kind of crossing, like a big bridge that you walk along...we could not have been more wrong!! It was a full on 20 kilometre hike up a mountain that is actually an active volcano! It took us 6.5 hours to complete and I think it was possibly one of the hardest things I've ever done! The weather was unbelievable, one minute we were boiling hot, then it was thick, heavy snow and the strongest wind ever trying to blow you off the top of the mountain and it was so steep!!! When we got to the top there was a massive, steep hill covered in thick snow to get down and it was physically impossible to stay stood up so we had to slide down on our bums! It was fun but really scary because it was hard to stop and we were so close to the edge of the mountain! The views were incredible, but I think I would rather do 10 caving trips than do it again, it was so hard!!!!
