We had two nights in Christchurch before our flight to Melbourne. We had been warned that there is not much to do there due to the damage from the Earthquake 3 years ago which was totally right! It's really sad to see such a derelict place that was clearly once a lively town. We were starving when we arrived so dumped our stuff and headed out to find lunch...this was not an easy task!! Every bar/cafe/restaurant sign we saw turned out to be deserted when we got to it! Finally we found a cool little area of temporary containers with shops and cafés in and I actually had the nicest lunch EVER! I couldn't get over how delicious it was! It was a piece of focaccia bread with hummus, slices of avocado and grilled haloumi cheese on top and a salad...YUM YUM!!
We also found a nice little restaurant/bar in the evening with live music and had more yummy food and wine!
After walking around the centre and seeing it's really just a massive building site we decided to catch a bus to the outskirts the next day so visited an area called sumner. There wasn't an awful lot to do there either, but it was cool to see another area. We had a chilled, early night ready to be collected at 4am for our flight to Melbourne!
