We weren't able to do our skydive the day we arrived in Taupo due to bad weather so we had to sign up for the early morning one the next day, but it was still weather dependant and people were saying it didn't seem likely it would clear up by the morning. We had to set an alarm and call the office at 6:30am to see if it was going to go ahead or not - both me and oddy were awake already waiting for 6:30am because we were feeling anxious! When we called they said it was going ahead and we had 15 mins until they collected us! I had been so convinced it wouldn't go ahead because of the weather so it was a weird feeling when I found out we definitely were doing it!
We opted to do the 'Full Monty' package which is a 15,000ft skydive, a DVD and photos. The journey up in the plane took about 20 minutes and I was not feeling nervous at all, one girl was jumping from 12,000ft so she went first - I was right behind her and when I saw her go that made me soooo nervous!!! It was like she got sucked down into a vortex at the speed of light! And the noise when the door is open is so loud and intimidating! We had to wear oxygen masks when we got beyond 12,000ft too which made me even more scared! So when we got to 15,000ft the camera man stood up on the outside of the plane so he could video me jumping - it was such a surreal, incredible feeling! It was -22 degrees and we did a 10,000ft free fall in under one minute so it was really hard to breath and I couldn't feel my fingers and toes! When the parachute opened its like a whole different experience again, suddenly everything went calm and peaceful and the view was amazing! It was all over so quickly but the adrenaline was pumping so we had smiles from ear to ear for hours after! It was definitely the highlight of my trip so far - (THANK YOU to Jackie for such an amazing leaving present!!!)
