We had an early start from Wellington in the morning to catch the ferry to the South Island. The ferry took 3 hours then we had a long drive to our next stop so the new driver (called Splash!) did a few stops along the way. First was a stop in Marlborough at a Vineyard for some wine tasting! Yum yum! We only sampled a tiny bit of wine as we didn't have long to stop there but it was cool for me to try my favourite wine from the source!! Then we visited a town called Nelson which was really pretty and reminded me of Sandbanks in Poole and finally we stopped at the Abel Tasman skydive centre for anyone on the bus who wanted to skydive! The weather was beautiful so two girls we've made friends with on the bus decided to do it spontaneously which was cool because we were able to stay and watch them! It made me and Oddy both wish we could do another one though! We then arrived at our overnight destination 'Old MacDonald's farm' for the evening. The accommodation was a bit s***ty, it's like a campsite so there was no lights outside, a portaloo and a shower full of spiders with no roof! We also had to do our own cooking because there was no restaurant, I'm still struggling a bit with the hygiene of hostel kitchens and have tried to avoid cooking or using them wherever possible! On the first night we had the option to go with the bus driver to get a burger from a place called 'The Fat Tui' instead of cooking so that was good and the burgers were amazing! Luckily our activity for the next day included an 11km walk so we could burn off the burger! We got a aqua taxi along the coast to a place called Anchorage then got dropped off and walked the 11km back to the farm. It was a long walk, but felt like a leisurely stroll after the Tongariro crossing! We stopped at a little cafe/bar on the way back for a glass of wine then headed back to the campsite to cook dinner. Splash created a bonfire which everyone then sat around and had some drinks, one guy on the bus has a guitar so he played music for us and it was a nice chilled out evening.
