Well Owens got me well and truly dressed like a cowgirl now! I must wear a hat at all times he says cos they have a hole in their ozone layer n I'll get sun stroke!!! I am now officially a cowgirl, yeeeeeeeeeehhhaaaaaaa!!
Been out riding this morning, I rode audition and led challor, slight mishap, my numnah slipped back n frightened challor who pulled back as we were cantering and pulled all the skin off my fingers!!! Managed to stay on and keep hold of challor though so alls good! God mum those blister plasters and my finger bandages have come in real handy! The lead ropes out here aren't the beautifully soft ones we have at home, think I'll wear gloves in future!
Been hogging manes and tails and loading the lorry ready for the weekend games! Owen told me he's 67, I was well shocked, he's like uncle Andrew!!!
Just sent this letter to the super intendant/governors at both the minimum and maximum local prisons!
Dear Super intendant,
My names Laina Richardson, I'm 28 years old and have just completed 10 years at 'Derby Youth Offending Service' in England where I ran a 'Youth Crime Prevention' Project and have achieved a BA Honours in 'Youth Justice'.
During my service I received many awards such as 'an invite to the queens garden party', a 'national community achievements award', 'going the extra mile', 'working wonders' and many more, all for my outstanding contribution towards cutting youth crime! Evidence of this is on google if you type in my name!
I worked in a high crime area where gang culture is rife and anti social behaviour is more the norm than the exception! My daily chores consisted of taking knives off children as young as 9, I was burnt by a travelling child, one burnt down the local industrial estate on a Saturday afternoon and one suffered a fatal accident whilst joy riding!
The majority of my young people suffered fractured transitions, had single parent families, grew up in care, came from a travelling background and watched on as their parents abused drugs and alcohol! These young people saw gang culture as their escape aswell as something exciting!
By using Best practice and evidence based approaches I was able to steer approx 70% away from a life of crime and I would like to share evidence of this with some of your prisoners whilst inspiring them to look at themselves and their choices!
I will do this by initially holding a 1 to 1 workshop where I will present them with a 'muzik ova mayhem' video!
We will discuss any similarities between the children in England and themselves before encouraging them to think of both the risk and protective factors they faced as a child! I will then ask them to give some advice to the young people in England that they'd of liked to have heard to keep them out of trouble! This exercise will encourage the prisoners to think 'out the box' as they are being asked to advise others but can also relate it to themselves!
The aim of this workshop is to 'inspire yourself by inspiring others'!
If you think this workshop is something you would be interested in, please contact me and I can arrange a meeting with yourselves on a Monday! I am currently working on woroloo polo ranch and Monday is my day off!
Initially i can hold some 1 to 1 workshops free of charge and if you feel this is something you could commission me to do on a more formal basis, we can go from there and increase class sizes to roll it out!
My previous experience of this includes, devising, developing and delivering a 'case management' training day to all Derby Youth Offendings' Prevention staff aswell as various workshops to the young people on 'joint Enterprise', 'life with and without crime', etc!
Many thanks
Laina Richardson
