Kya Travels
This morning we had another sleep in, after our late night the night before, and when we got up we went to get some lunch. We opted for the Mexican place Viva Mexico again for more chimichangas! It was only a few shops down from us which was awesome, so we went down there. On the way, we realised we should not have worn thongs! The street was wet from rain, and it was SO slippery! Lucky we only had such a short distance to go! The chimichangas definitely lived up to our expectations again, they're sooo good! After lunch we slipped and slided our way back to the hostel, where Darren went back to bed to nurse his hangover, and I got some proper shoes on, and Lyle and I went for a walk. We decided we'd go down to Arthur's seat to check that out, which is one of the big hills around the city, that you can climb up for amazing views of the area. On the way, we walked past the royal palace at the foot of the Royal Mile, which was pretty. There was apparently some royal visiting, cos it was closed to the public, with a big sign out the front. We got to the foot of the hill, and started the climb up. The first bit was quite a steep incline, and all loose rocks, so it was a bit of hard work, and I was once again reminded of how unfit I am!! The views over Edinburgh city from that bit were awesome! Once we got over that hill, which is halfway up a pretty steep cliff, we headed over to the main section of Arthur's seat to make our way up. This part was worse than the last bit! It was pretty much super steep winding stairs up the side of the mountain! Like the you-yangs, but like, ten times as steep! I had to stop quite a bit, but I was determined to make it to the top!! We'd come so far! We eventually got to the top of that section, then had to walk across a grassy plain to the final hill to get to the top. This was the hardest bit of the lot! There wasn't really one determined path, you just had to pick whatever looked easiest and literally climb up the rocks to the top! Needless to say, I was stuffed by the time we got up there! But the views were absolutely stunning! You could see the whole world pretty much!! Amazing! We got a bunch of photos, and had a well-deserved break at the top, before starting the descent back into town! At the grassy part near the top, we stopped where someone had written their name out of stones. The name was Lulu, so I changed it to say Lyle! Then we added Kya and Daz to it (so now Darren can say he was on Arthur's seat!), and started walking down. It was easier going down, but much more dangerous! With all the loose rocks it was a slippery trip down! I fell twice, and almost fell another two times! We finally made it to the bottom, and by that time I was seriously regretting not bringing any water along! We stopped in the first cafe we passed and grabbed some glorious water! As we were walking back into town, we passed a vegetarian restaurant! I think I know what's for dinner tonight! We went into a cash converters type place, where Lyle picked up some mini speakers, that we could plug our iPods into, so we could play music in our spare time and actually hear it. Then we headed back to the hostel. Darren had been sleeping the whole time, and we woke him up when we got back. We hung out at the hostel for a while longer, just chilling out, and updating some photos. When we were ready for dinner, we went out to the vego place we had passed earlier... But they were booked out! Damn! Will have to come back later in the year! So instead we went back to the Indian place we had gone to with the group the other day, Shamoli. The guys there remembered us, and were super friendly. They were suggesting meals for us to try, and I think we all got what they suggested. Darren and Lyle both asked for hot meals. And they got it. Lyle made it through his, but I think this was the second time in my life I've ever seen something that was too hot for Darren to eat!! He actually couldn't take it, and didn't enjoy it at all, which was a shame. But on the plus side, mine was AMAZING! I got a sag paneer, which is a pretty standard dish, but I've never had one this good! Most places purée the spinach, but this one had fresh spinach and heaps of other veggies, and the homemade cheese was delicious! Yum! Again, I'll recommend this place to anyone. But don't muck around with the heat!! After dinner we went back to the hostel, and just chilled out for the night.
