Kya Travels
We woke up this morning and went downstairs for breakfast, which was again, quite yummy, then as we were about to head back, I realised I had left the key in the room... Oops! So we got another key from reception then went up to the room. I went back to sleep as I was feeling a little off, and ended up sleeping for hours. When I woke up, I was feeling quite ******, I think I might be coming down with a flu or something! On New Year's Eve! Not fair! So after a while, we got ready and walked down the street to a wine shop where we searched for, and found, the same bottle of wine we had drank last time we were in Edinburgh. It was so good, that we had taken a photo of it, and they still stocked it in the same wine shop. Score! With our wine, we headed up to Shamoli, where we sat down and ordered an absolutely delicious dinner. The vegetarian version of the Chicken Dansak was the best thing ever, and the cheese naan was amazing. I love this place! We had a chat with our friend who was working there again, and asked his plans, and said maybe we would meet him that night at the street party. When we finished and paid, we left and went for a walk up to a supermarket up the road, where I found some moisturising cream, to get me by, as my eczema was about the worst it's ever been, and I was out of cream and all the pharmacies were closed! Then we headed back to the wine shop where we picked up another couple of bottles of the nice wine, before heading back to our hotel room. We slowly got ready, putting on our warmest clothes, transferred the two wine bottles into a large plastic bottle (no glass allowed in the street party!) then after hanging around for a little while, we walked out and headed down to the Hogmanay Street Party! It was very cool. So crowded, but an amazing vibe, and everyone was there for a good time, and having fun. We walked around a while sipping on our water bottle full of wine, like bogans, then we found the line for the Ceilidh (I don't know why it's spelt different to the one last night...) and lined up. We got talking to a couple of girls behind us, Rachael and Charlotte, who were very nice, and made the wait in the line much more bearable. Before we knew it, we were at the front of the line, and Darren put the bottle of wine under his jumper, as we'd read that we couldn't take alcohol in. It was very obvious what he was doing, but they let him in anyway! I don't think they cared too much, and we got to keep our wine! Yay! We walked up to the Ceilidh stage and found a spot where we could hag around and chat with the girls while we drank and watched some dancing. Not long later, we got involved and tried our hand at some more Scottish dancing (we're getting better!) and had a good time there with the girls and other random people! At 11pm they had a quick fireworks display, which didn't last very long, then we got back to some more dancing. There were a couple of dances that we recognised from the night before, so we got to have another go at them, then when it was getting close to midnight we went to find a spot with a good view over Edinburgh Castle where the midnight fireworks display would be going from. We waited a while, and chatted some more, and a couple in front of us were handing out sparklers. We lit them a few minutes before midnight, and it looked very cool with all the sparklers going off around us, then the countdown began! As midnight and 2014 rang in, we watched the amazing fireworks display, and there were hugs and kisses all round, and we tried to get some cool photos, then when it was all over, the band started up again, and we hung out with Rachael and Charlotte a bit longer, watching the music and talking, then after a while, we decided to head off. We walked together to the exit, then the girls went out the exit and ran off, and we stayed inside and got a snack from a shop there, who were selling deep fried cheesy goodness, then we exited as well and made our way through the street party. It was still a great atmosphere, with everyone partying and having fun together, although the streets were significantly dirtier, with litter and empty bottles everywhere! I feel sorry for whoever has to clean up! Everyone we passed on the street were in a great mood, with no violence or stupid drunk arguments or anything, and we soaked in the atmosphere as we headed up to KFC, where Darren got a snack. We wandered on through the party and headed out back towards our hotel. We stopped in at the reception for some more tea and milk, then went up and had a cuppa before going to bed, where I had a very ******, itchy, feverish sleep. But at least we'd had an amazing night. Happy New Year!
