Kya Travels
We had a pretty awesome sleep in and an amazing shower, with both hot water AND pressure! Awesome! When we were finally up, we went to go find some lunch. We walked down the Royal Mile a bit, past a street artist, who was amazing! He was using spray paint to make amazing space and landscape pictures. We watched him finish the one he was doing, which was really cool, then kept on walking down to the Grassmarket. We walked up the strip, having a look at all the menus, and on the way got given free packets of a new aero product, from a bunch of people who were doing a promotion on the street there. We ended up going back to the first pub, Maggie d*** ons. This pub got its name from a lady who was given the death penalty for concealing an illegitimate pregnancy, and she was hung on the scaffolding which used to be out the front of the pub. They hung her, pronounced her dead, then as she was being taken to the cemetery, she woke up, and they declared it an act of God, and she was let go. Apparently she used to have a drink at this particular pub, and give her support to the people going up to be executed! We got some lunch there, which was okay for me, but apparently amazing for the boys. Lyle got a monster burger, and Darren got a mega meat platter! Ew! After lunch we went back to the Aero promotion, where I had a go at their game! It was a bubble that you go into, then a wind starts blowing a heap of little foam balls around and you have to catch as many as you could and put them into a tote bag. It was really hard, but I found a sweet spot, and got 64! I didn't get onto the leader board though, the lowest on the board was 71, so I almost made it! It was fun at least! After this we went back to the oldest pub, the White Hart Inn, where Darren got one of their specialty drinks, which they call The Old Fashioned. It was sugar, bitters, whiskey, lime and soda water, and it was apparently delicious. I had a sip, and even I didn't mind it, as a non-whiskey drinker! The glass they served it in was strange though! It had a rounded bottom, so if it was knocked, it would just roll right over and spill the drink all over the place! After a drink we headed back towards the hostel, and stopped to watch the spray paint artist, whose name is David, again. After he finished the one he was doing, we asked if we could video his next one, and buy it from him, which he said we could. So we got a video from start to finish of his amazing work, and ended up with an awesome space scene, which I bought to send to my brother, Jace, for his birthday, which is this weekend! So then, quite happy with my purchase, we headed back to the hostel, where I chilled out for a while, while Darren and Lyle went to go to the supermarket for a few drinks. When they got back, we all had a few drinks, and played some guitar together, and then went to hang out in the games room at the hostel. In there, we met a French couple, the guy was a muso too. We had a chat with them and had a couple of games of pool, then they left to go to the pub up the road, The Scotsmans, to see some live music. We met a bunch of other guys in the games room, including an Italian guy, some Irish girls that worked at the hostel, another Italian guy who also had a guitar and had a jam with Darren, and a group of two girls and a guy from Switzerland, who had a bit of a singalong with Darren to 'Repeat After Me'! That was pretty awesome! After we finished our drinks, we headed out with the Swiss guys, and went to go to The Scotsmans bar, but it wasn't serving anymore, so we went up the road to the Albanach instead. We got one drink there, but they were closing too, so we couldn't stay there! We had a bit of a chat with the barman there about the differences between the Irish Gaelic and the Scottish Gallic, which seemed very similar. He didn't really know anything about it though! After they closed up, we went to our 'local', Whistle Binkies! They had a rock cover band on, who were playing some pretty cool tunes, so we had some drinks there, and had a bit of a dance. The Swiss guys didn't stick around long, cos they were flying out early, but we stayed on and watched the bands set, and had a few more drinks. When they finished, we went up the road to a little convenience shop, and bought some pasties and other hot food, then went back to the hostel and stumbled up to bed! It was a really fun night!
