Kya Travels
We woke up this morning after a few hours sleep, packed our bags, checked out and walked down the street to the bus stop, where we waited for a bit for the bus. We bought our ticket to Auray (only €2 each, bargain!) and got on the bus. When we got into Auray, we had about a 2 hour wait until the train, so we sat down at a cafe for a bit and shared a green mint tea (after an interesting conversation trying to find a word for herbal tea!) I went across the road to a bakery where I got myself a croissant and a pain au chocolat (chocolate croissant!) and Darren got a baguette with ham and cheese. After that we went over to the platform and got on our train. This part of the journey was about 4 hours, and the train was ridiculously hot! There seemed to be no air conditioning at all and the train was packed! We quickly finished our water and had nowhere to fill it up! Towards the end of our trip, a nice man in the seat in front of ours gave us one of his little juice boxes. That was so nice! I don't know why people think the French are rude and mean, we definitely haven't experienced that! As we were pulling up into Bordeaux, we got chatting to a girl who had a little English, and she was recommending stuff for us to do, and highly recommended a dessert that is from Bordeaux called a Cannelé. Will have to keep an eye out for that one! We got off the train, and it wasn't much cooler, although the fresh air and a bit of a breeze definitely helped! We walked pretty much across the road from the station to our hotel, checked in and got taken up to our awesome room. The lady at reception said she specifically gave us this one because we were staying so long, and it was the only room with a balcony! We had a nice view over a fountain out the front. We dropped off our bags then went down a few shops to a restaurant where I got a big salad and Darren got some fish. The fish came out whole, and he had to cut off the head and tail and eat around the bones, which for Darren was a pretty good effort as that kind of thing usually freaks him out a bit! After the mains we had a look at the desserts menu and asked what the waiter recommended, which turned out to be the dessert we had been recommended by the girl on the train! So we ordered that, and when it came out it was like a little cake, that was really dense and really sticky.. You could hardly cut into it with the spoon! But it sure was delicious! Go Bordeaux! After that we just went back to the hotel room where we just chilled out, and rested our sick bodies for the night.
