Kya Travels
Today we had a big sleep in, then packed up our washing and went out to look for a laundromat. What we didn't take into account was that it was a Sunday and everything was closed... And not only closed, but it seemed the whole area was boarded up for good! So we just kept walking and came up to Place de la Victoire, where we stopped at a restaurant for some lunch. It was a bit of a fancy looking place and the prices were a little steep but we were still sick and sick of walking! I got an antipasto platter and Darren got a burger. My meal was delicious and perfect for such a hot day, too! Darren's was disappointing, and made him decide he wouldn't get another burger in France because they'd all been ****! After lunch we walked back down to the hotel, and found a laundromat, but by that time we couldn't be bothered anymore, so we just headed back to the hotel for a snooze! When we woke up we went for a walk into the city and walked around the streets for a bit before deciding on an Italian place in the city centre called Parlement d'Italie. We got a table and ordered, and got talking to the group of guys on the table next to us. When I say talking, it was a lot more gesturing and body language as all four of them were deaf and using sign language to talk to each other. They could hear us a little, but only a couple of them had much English, so that made it harder again, as we were really translating twice, but we worked it out and had a good chat with them in one way or another. If they didn't understand we'd write in our phones and vice versa, and one of them had google translate on his phone too. We had a good chat and a laugh with them over dinner, and they were especially interested in Australia as they were going to Indonesia/Thailand later in the year and were thinking of going to Australia for a bit while they were there. One thing I learned that I'd never really thought of before (but makes complete sense) is that their sign language is different to Australian sign language, which would make it that much harder for them to travel! But they didn't seem phased by it and had already travelled a bit throughout France (and possibly elsewhere) and were really keen for their next holiday! After we finished our meals we said goodbye (au revoir) to them and headed out to start making our way home. We walked back the same way as every other time, but this time walked on the river side of the road as opposed to the city side, and we discovered something pretty cool... There was a giant water feature which was pretty much an extremely thin layer of water which gave a mirror effect as well as looking as though people were walking on water! That was pretty cool! So we walked back along the river, where even though it was just across the road, felt like a totally different part of town! It was green everywhere and there were trees and parks and pretty lights and beautifully lit up bridges. We made our way along there for a bit until it ran out, then crossed the road again and headed back to the hotel and to bed.
