Kya Travels
I woke up a bit earlier than Darren today, so I thought I'd go take the washing and get it started. I walked down and worked out how to use the machines (all the instructions are in French!) then sat down and read a book on the iPad. Not much to talk about there except that it was damn hot! Darren rocked up about 20 minutes before the drying was finished and we just hung out and waited. Finally, we had clean, dry clothes and we headed back to the hotel to drop them off before walking into the city. We walked around the streets a bit and decided on an Asian place that I can't remember the name of (Shidmali or something along those lines?) because the smells coming from the shop were irresistible! We had a delicious (and massive) meal there, and they had the coolest bathroom I've ever seen. I wish I'd taken a photo! The room was huge, the walls were painted in heaps of brightly colored stripes that kind of dripped down the walls, and there was a glass case built into the floor with a surfboard in it and a massive mirror on the back wall which made the room look even bigger. Then they had one toilet in the middle of the room and a small sink in the corner. Pretty cool toilet! After lunch we went for a walk up the main pedestrian street, Rue Saint Catherine, and went into a few shops and pharmacies to pick up a few things then turned around and headed down the other end of the street. We got an ice cream which looked amazing but was a little disappointing, then kept walking. At the end of the street we came out onto Place de la Victoire where we were yesterday. I didn't realize the two streets connected! So from there we walked the quick way back down the street and back to the hotel where we went for a snooze. When we woke up Darren went to have a shave and I played DJ with the iPod, playing songs like 'Razor' and 'Smooth Criminal' and 'Cut Here' etc.. Yeah, I'm pretty funny! When we were ready we headed back into the city for dinner. On the way we had a little kid probably around 8 years old ask us for money... It was a little suss as we think he deliberately walked past us to see what language we were speaking then when he confirmed we were tourists he doubled back to ask us for money, because he didn't even attempt to talk to us in French first... We were a bit wary that it could have been part of a bigger scam, and we didn't have any change anyway, so we apologized and kept walking, and crossed the road too, just to be sure... We got into the part of town where the restaurants started, but were enjoying our walk so we just kept going. We eventually stopped at a French restaurant called L'Ombriére, where we had some delicious food and Bordeaux red wine, and even saved some room for crème brûlée for dessert! Mmmmmm!!! After that we headed back to the hotel and went to bed.
