Kya Travels
When we woke up this morning we went for a walk into the city to find the tourist info centre so we could book a wine tour. We found our way there via a little detour down the wrong street, then when we asked about it, we were told we were at the wrong info centre! That's two info centres in one town that don't do any sort of bookings! Weird. So we got our directions to the OTHER info centre, and started to head there. We walked through a little square that had a cool statue. It's like a mini version of a big one in the center of town, which is a man sitting with his arms around his legs, which is made of see through metal letters, but this one was made of musical symbols. Love it. We stopped for lunch on our way after that, at a little créperie called Créperie Reno. It was a tiny little place, but it was packed so we thought it must be good! The menu had a cute picture of a little dog on it, then the real life little dog came wandering by for a pat! She's like the little mascot for the cafe and was just wandering from table to table getting a bit of a scratch and a pat here and there. So cute! So we had our crépes (delicious), and continued to head up Rue st Catherine. We got to the end of the street and continued past a pretty cool statue that was a face that looked side on from every angle, and went up to the tourist information centre, the Office D'Tourisme. After waiting in the line, we got some options and booked a tour that went to a town called Saint-Émilion, which we had been highly recommended by my aunt and cousin, then continued to walk up the way we were going, as we hadn't explored up there yet. We came to a massive square, Place des Quinconces, with a huge fountain in it, Monument aux Girondes, which looked pretty cool. It had horses coming out of the water with fountain water spraying from their nostrils... Pretty funny! After checking that out, we headed back down Rue st Catherine and stopped in a few 'souvenir' shops looking for stickers. They said souvenir out the front but ended up being more like a cigarette/lotto/newsagent type of place with a few postcards out the front... Random. We headed back down the street, and back to the hotel via Place de la Victoire. We chilled out for a while, and I had a read of a book on the iPad, then guess what? We had a snooze. When I woke up, Darren was still snoozing, so I headed out and went down to the supermarket. I picked up a bottle of wine, some Camembert and some snacks so we could go have a romantic picnic by the river side then went back to the hotel. When Darren woke up though, it had started to rain a bit. Then it started to rain a bit more. Then it was pelting down! So we just stayed in and had our picnic there with the blinds open watching the thunderstorm's light show! It's probably a good thing, because I hadn't thought about getting the bottle open, and we didn't have a corkscrew! Since we were in the hotel though, we were able to borrow one from reception. I taught Darren how to use a corkscrew and got a bit of a giggle out of watching that happen, then after our picnic, and a pretty impressive lightning show, we watched some TV before going to sleep.
