Arriving in Lake Argyle we couldn't wait to have a dip in the infinity pool, so it was a quick set up, togs on then we all hit the pool. It was lovely with gorgeous views over the lake, I could see why it was a draw card for the 'resort'.
We had a nice shady camp spot which was lucky as there was not much to choose from as they had closed half of the park because it was coming into the low season.
We drive up to Pannikin lookout with some nibblies and drinks to watch the sunset. The sun was hiding behind the clouds but the view was unreal and it was great to have a couple of drinks.
The next day we did a day trip into Kunnunurra to have a look around, stock up and catch up on phone calls and emails while in service. It was another hot day there in the early 40's. Back at camp we all hit the pool again :)
Tuesday morning the boys took the kids fishing after some school work and after lunch we all went on a boat cruise of Lake Argyle.
Before the cruise we went over to reception to watch a DVD about the making of the lake, unfortunately the power had been out so we only got to watch a bit of it before the big bus arrived to take us down to the lake. The kids loved riding on the bus, it was like a big old school bus. On the way back Indi and Seany had claimed the whole back seat ;)
The cruise was awesome, it went for 4 hours and took us way out into the lake. After seeing on a map though we only covered a tiny portion as the lake was just massive. It was 20+ times the size if Sydney harbour in the dry and 80 in the wet. The bit we could see from the park and pool where we were staying was only 1% of it! Was very interesting to learn about the massive job it was to build. There was over 35,000 fresh water crocs in there, we seen about 5 on our cruise ;) we stopped at what felt like the middle of the lake and we could all jump out and had a swim. Shaun went straight to the top of the boat and jumped off. Then Caleb and Indi went in. They handed out noodles for everyone to float with. I got a quick dip in before the boat had to move on, it was lovely to swim in the deep fresh water. Then the boat took us further out into the lake, we seen crocodile eggs on the mainland in one area and a couple of cows on one of the islands. They were descendants of the original cows that got stranded when they first flooded the area to make the lake. We stopped again before sunset for another swim, some nibblies and beer and wine. Caleb was keen to try jumping off from the roof this time but only got halfway up the ladder and he jumped from there. They passed beers out to the boys while relaxing in the water with the noodles and Sal stayed on the deck with me finishing my wines, they were not sweet enough for me. The sunset hid behind some clouds again but was still lovely. With everyone back on the boat we headed back in. We were going really fast and it was dark now so after madly doing head counts a couple of times I sat in a seat with Archie for the ride home. We'd had a great afternoon and the cruise lived up to what everyone had told us about it.
The next day Caleb finished writing some postcards and we had a swim before lunch. Indi needed to have a sleep so Shaun stayed in the camper with her and I promised her a swim later. Sal bought some hot chips to have with sangas for lunch. After lunch the boys took the kids fishing again, they were all very excited. I was excited too... Archie was having a good sleep and I got to sit down with Sal and have a few Malibu's!
Thursday morning Sal and Gaz headed into Kununnurra before 5am, they were doing a 2 hr flight over the Bungle Bungles!! About 5 mins after they left their camper was alive with kids and Zane had a nice pressie in his nappy for me, so I got to wrestle with him while I changed his bum ;) Just after 6am while the kids were eating breaky we all waved madly as we seen their plane going over which was pretty cool. Archie and Zane sat side by side while I fed them both weetbix, it was Archie's first try and he didn't mind it. I think he was just worried Zane was going to eat it on him haha.
All the kids had a great morning playing and Caleb and Benny were walking around the park taking photos on their iPods. I contemplated heading to the pool while Shaun packed up the camps as we were leaving today, but with 4 kids, Zane in his floaty and Archie in the pram I decided to wait till we could all go together ;) They all had ice creams instead while I did some souvenir shopping.
Sal and Gaz were back by mid morning. They had a great flight, part of the Bungle Bungles were not visible due to smoke from a fire but it sounded like it was still awesome.
I took the big kids to the pool while they finished packing up camp then everybody else joined us. It was great to get one last dip in before we left.
On the road again and wasn't long and we were back in NT. It was a bit sad leaving WA, it had so much to offer and can't wait to get back and explore more next time. We called into Timber Creek, Shaun's Uncle Toms brother Clive owned a servo there and we wanted to say hi. We found Clives wife Pauline at the servo, Clive was away working in a station near Argyle. It was nice to have a chat and she met the kids. She also told us about a camping spot at the old Victoria river crossing on the other side of town that we headed to and camped at for the night.
