Both camps had an early wake up with the kids this morning so we decided to make the most of it and get an early start. Beautiful morning watching the sun rise and wasn't too cold which was a lovely change.
As we pulled back out onto the road Gary found an awesome huge clearing about 50m up the road!! Would have been a great camp spot for us... oh well next time haha.
Stopped at Gary Junction where 3 tracks meet. Here there is also another Len Beadell plaque, he lead the construction party of the Gun Barell road to the north west.
Was a cool place to stop, there was a log book which we signed and it was great to have a quick read about other adventurers!
Further down the road and Shaun discovers that both of our top shocky mounts have snapped of the camper chassis. So we are now slowly plodding along the 40 km's to Kunawaritji. Maps say there is a phone booth here so I think I'll call our folks and let them we have got this far and what our plans are from here! :)
Well after nearly a 4 hr stop at Kunawaritji we are on the road again. Shaun used a workshop there to re-attach the mounts so hopefully if we take it slow they will hold up till Newman. We fueled up here as well and @ $3.40/L hopefully this will be the dearest of the trip!!
This community was larger and had much better facilities than Kiwirrkurra. We had lunch while waiting to hear about camper parts then Sal, the kids and I hung out under a shady tree while the boys were working on our camper. Our kids loved watching the aboriginal kids play, especially a lil nudie one ;)
We were advised here not to take our campers through the canning stock route, so after having already done some damage we have decided to head north/west on the telfer mine road thru Punmu then to Marble Bar.
So after a quick call to mum to let her know our route has changed we are heading up the road a bit to camp for the night.
Found another communications tower to camp under. About 30 km's east of Lake Auld - a dry salt lake. The kids went off collecting the firewood again and we all had toasted jaffas cooked on the open fire for tea :)
