Finally a sleep in this morning!! It was only until 8.30am but it felt good!! We didnt go out in Alice last night with the tour crew, both of us were absolutely wrecked! Instead we got cleaned up (hot water alleluia!) and had dinner and drinks at Toddy's bar/restaurant. Settled for $5 spaghetti bolognese again! Lovely and such good value! ($12 dollar pitcher of beer always wins it though).
Didn't get to sleep quick last night even though I was tired due to fireworks going off from about 6pm until the early morning. Apparently it's a holiday in Northern territory on 1st July (think it something to do with the N.T. gaining some independence or something).
Got shuttle bus from hostel to airport at sbout 9am (which we got free voucher for on arrival - score!!).
Had a bit of breakie at airport after getting scanned for explosives! (twice so far this trip!). They must hear the accent an assume! One guy who scanned Carol told her the Irish wouldn't be bothered with a simple bomb and if we were going to do it, we'd do it right!
Boarded the flight an we were en route to Melbourne to see Sinéad and David! Carol was very excited! (as was I)
We arrived in Melbourne and went to collect our bags - its very strange in Oz as a lot of the baggage carousels are near airport doors which are accessible to public so anyone could stroll in and take bags. Very trusting!
After the hugs and kisses (and Carols tears) were done we set off to their apartment. Very cool city with lots of high rise apartment blocks and office blocks!
Arrived at apartment and the holiday had begun with a corona on the balcony! Was a lovely sunny day and a perfect to start Melbourne!
After that David and I brought a few beers to their tennis court and played a few games! Class! Apartment complex also has pool, gym, jacuzzi and sauna!! Just found out pool, sauna and jacuzzi is closed for 4 weeks from Monday on...typical :-(
We strolled through Melbourne streets (stopping off for quick bevy!) and federation square. Very cool city with amazing unique architecture.
Had dinner / drinks back at apartment before dolling up and heading out on town! We got an asian taxi driver who David convinced I was a very famous GAA player from Ireland. I ended up giving him my autograph and we told him we were off playing poker with Jim Stynes!! (famous Irish ex Australian rules player). Comical.
Visited a bar called the Provential and met up with lots of Sinéad and David's friends.
After a few beers we started on rum/coke!
We went to a late bar called NightCat which had 16 piece jazz band, fierce cool. Was buckled by then so if I could remember more I'd tell! Apparently I was trying dance with full drinks which didn't really work!
We left there about 3.30am and it was food time in 24 hour Crowne plaza! We tried to divert via the Casino but the girls were having none of it! Had KFC and McDonalds between us! I was certainly glad of bed tonight! Night!!
