Twas the morning after the night before..heads were not very good all round! However, we still mustled up the courage to tackle an almost full Irish breakie! The plan was to catch one of the biggest games of the year at the MCG (Collingwood v Hawthorn - Melbourne Cricket Ground) and go out for a few drinks after it.
As we walked towards the stadium the place was buzzing - fans were in their kits and music was playing. I got to see the different Melbourne sporting arenas - the Rod Laver where Tennis Australian Open is held, the AAMI arena where we would go watch Celtic v Melbourne next week, the Hisense arena which hosts cycling, tennis, concerts etc and of course the MCG.
Could not wait for my first Aussie rules game, we had gone to Ireland v Australia in International rules in Ireland last October but there would be a mad atmosphere today. Then a voice over the PA system came on - "There are no more general admission tickets on sale". I nearly died! Apparently, this is so rare. The stadium could hold 100,000 people!! Christ sake!! (by the way we found out after the game that the MCG management made a booby and only 83,000 were at match - the dopes). Anyway, there is another game next week, a smaller one but with Collingwood but we said we would book tickets just in case!!
After the disappointment of that we went for a short walk around sports area and then for a drive to St. Kilda (or little Ireland as it is affectionately known!!). Lovely seaside town with hip bars and eateries. Irish accents all over though - it was like being in Youghal!
We arrived back at apartment and we sampled the pool, sauna and jacuzzi! Such a pity that it's closed for the rest of this trip! Think it's going to be open when we get back after Cairns / Sydney which should be relaxing!
Sinéads friend Alex called up for a chat with her sister and kids. Great to see Alex again, she lived in Galway with Sinèad an David for a while and comes from Adelaide but lives a few floors below them now in Melbourne.
Had a nice chicken pasta dish - savage!!
After a few beers on the couch, I watched Wimbledon final and Cork / Kerry updates on iPhone (no comment but the all Ireland was never won in Fitzgerald's farm in Killarney).
Was a late night but hey, where on hols!! Ciao ciao!
