Go up really early this morning to finish packing. Hate packing usually because it means we are going home but in this case, we were heading about 3000km north to Cairns, or as the locals call it Caaaaaainnnnnnns!
We caught a taxi to southern cross bus station..or so we asked! Stupid b****** taxi man assumed we were going to airport and headed that way. After that he kind of turned into robert de Niro taxi man and went a bit mental at every red light. After he tried to convince us to let him bring us to airport we told him we were meeting friends but still, he persisted in asking. 10 for effort young man!
After eventually getting out of cab at station we just made bus and were running slightly late because of Robert.
Anyway we made it to Caiirrrnnssss - very very humid. Jumped in a cab with a destination of the hippie camper van shop! Only a short cab ride away which kind of pissed off our taxi driver. They assume everyone is going to the $22 taxi ride of Cairns and if they see you are not, they 'alter' the fare. The idiot then got lost en route and blamed us for giving him wrong directions after we tried to haggle with him. Today had a very stupid b****** taxi driver theme to it!!! Anyway, after all the who-haa and paper work, we picked up our camper van. See pic!! It was a White Misubitshi covered in hippie flowers. The back was a dining area by day and bedroom by night. In fairness, although it doesn't look it, but very spacious!
It was my turn to drive first this time and after about a mile, I got used to it!
We stopped at Coles (Aussie tesco basically!) to do big shop (!) before setting off to caravan park for night. Got one of last few spots thankfully but we stayed in unpowered site that night. Made some burritos for dinner and watched some NRL game on Tv for a bit. We headed back to van to plan tomorrow (again, quite spacious!).
It was very humid night, no need for sleeping bags. We eventually decided we would stay here again tomorrow night but hopefully in a powered site but head to port douglas during day, which was a short drive north.
Night night!
