Happiness Is The Road
This had been a great camp site despite the extortionate price. The facilities were good and some wallabies had passed close by to say hello. After brekky we drove back across to the visitor centre car park so we could go back into the National Park to do another walk. We got the shuttle bus just one stop to the Ranger Station from where we could start the Cradle Valley Boardwalk. As the name implies this is a boardwalk and it runs just over 6 kilometres through the most beautiful scenery with the majestic Cradle Mountain as the back drop. The weather was completely perfect again today with a clear blue sky, absolutely wonderful for seeing this incredible area at it's very best. We were very lucky to get two perfect weather days here as on average it rains here seven days out of ten, is cloudy eight days in ten. The sun apparently shines all day only one day in ten! There were still lots of bees about but they hadn't been too bad on the walk.It took us just over two hours to reach Ronny Creek where the boardwalk ended. From here we wanted to get the shuttle bus back to where the camper was at the visitor centre. We had just missed a bus when we got there so we waited at the bus stop for the next one to arrive. The bees at the bus stop were annoying and irritating beyond belief. They were swarming around us like demented maniacs! We hoped that the bus would arrive soon so we could get out of there. Whilst we were waiting a group of five people aged about early 60's turned up. They had been walking and looked and sounded to be at the optimum of health. They didn't come over to the bus stop but hung around nearby. Just before the bus came another younger couple joined us in the queue at the bus stop. Literally just before the bus pulled up the group of 5 ran over and plonked themselves in front of us and the other couple. When the bus opened it's door they were ready to get on. The driver, however, said that he had only room for four people. It didn't seem to matter that we were first in the queue they just discussed amongst themselves which four of them should get on. They were having trouble deciding. It appeared that Jay and I and the other couple had become invisible. Just when a couple of them started to board the bus I said to Jay ' it doesn't seem to matter that we were first in the queue'. Jay was annoyed like me and thinking the same thing. They overheard this and suddenly asked us if we'd like to get on. It was too late by then and we told them it didn't matter and we'd wait for the next one. They had made us look stupid because of their selfish attitude. They knew we had been waiting for ages and were first in queue but were so selfish and self obsessed that they ignored us. We were fuming. Why is it that people are so selfish and don't think of others? If they had been nice from the start and acknowledged us and asked us if we'd like to get on first we'd have said it's okay. We are very reasonable people that way, but because of their attitude they had got our backs up and really annoyed us. I think that three of them got on this bus and two waited. Anyhow when the next one came we just barged straight on and thought sod them! It was just great to get away from the bees. We got back to the visitors centre without any further hassles and hit the road to the coast. We decided to head back up to the north of Tasmania, not too far away from our first night here in Penguin. We decided to go to a place called Somerset. The camp site here was tatty and quirky and we liked it. The facilities were really clean with excellent showers. We chilled here and went for a walk along the beach later on.
