Happiness Is The Road
The showers were free of frogs this morning. I showered but Jay didn't risk it! After brekky we hit the road. We drove to the Blackdown Tableland National Park which was just a few kilometres away. It's a 600m sandstone plateau that rises suddenly out of the flat plains all around it. The scenery from the road up to it was spectacular. The road wound it's way up to the top of the plateau. We went for a walk around the top to a beautiful waterfall and then we went to the Horseshoe Lookout. The view was incredible down into the valley below full of trees and over onto the flat plain which stretched off into the vast distance. After this we drove back to the highway and saw cattle grazing on the plains and a couple of cute kangaroos. We had a big drive ahead of us today. The first town we came to was Blackwater which is a big coal mining centre. We stopped here for some fuel and then we headed further west to Emerald. From here we took the highway going north. The roads were a lot quieter today and far more relaxed. We got to Clermont at around four and decided to stop here for the night. We'd covered a lot of ground today. We found the Clermont Caravan Park and chilled here for the rest of the day. It was a great place with good facilities and as is usual with Australian caravan parks there were quite a few permanent residents. Jay overheard one elderly woman talking to a friend and complaining that she couldn't afford to buy decent food. She had a cigarette in her hand and was taking deep blasts on it whilst moaning. It would appear that she was too thick and too addicted to figure out that if she stopped wasting all her money on fags she'd be able to afford good healthy food. Unbelievable!
