Happiness Is The Road
It was still raining when we woke up but we hadn't floated away in the night. After brekky we drove the short distance up a very steep and windy road to the village in the rainforest, Kuranda, 1000 feet above Cairns. The journey up there was wet but it stopped raining by the time we got there. Kuranda is a really lovely little place surrounded by world heritage rainforest. There are markets here and loads of interesting shops selling all sorts of different art and crafts. We had a look around the markets first and bought ourselves some anklets and bracelets. It was a wonderful quirky and alternative market with loads of character. On the way out from the markets Jay spotted to the side of the path and in it's web a huge spider. This was by far the biggest spider we have seen on our travels. We took some photos and then hurried on away from this monster! By now it had started raining again and it was torrential again. We eventually made a run for the main street and had a look at all the shops here. The footpaths by the shops were under cover so we didn't get wet. We did though buy some rain ponchos which we were sure would come in handy at some point in the near future. We bought some mango chutney and some chilli salsa which were both sugar free. They were both made from completely natural ingredients and this was a great find. We also found some snack bars made by a company called Yummy. We got a cranberry cashew and a chocky fudge flavoured bar. These were also a great find as again they were made from natural ingredients and free of sugar and nasties. When we were all shopped out we made a dash for the camper van and went to find the only camp site in Kuranda. It was a lovely place in amongst the rainforest and it was very wet. It was raining when we got there and was still raining when we went to bed.
