Happiness Is The Road
We didn't linga any longa at Wonga. After brekky we hit the road with the destination being the Daintree National Park and Cape Tribulation. The only way to get there, apart from an extremely long way round on dirt roads, was to get the ferry across the Daintree River. The ferry was just a big barge hauled across the river on a cable. It went across every few minutes and it only took two minutes to get across. The sign at the river bank warned of crocodiles but fortunately we didn't see any. The road on the other side was fairly narrow and winding and it was about 27 kilometres to the cape and the end of the sealed road. This is Cassowary country and there were plenty of signs warning of them. We didn't see any today. We stopped three times on the way. First we stopped at a lookout to admire the view. Then we detoured slightly to Cow Bay and had a look at the beach. After this we stopped and went on the Marrja botanical walk which took us through the rainforest and mangrove swamps. It was beautiful here but quite eerie. After the walk we continued to Cape Tribulation and found the camp site we had chosen. It was right on the beach front just behind a few tropical trees. We didn't get to see the beach today though as soon after we got there the rain was back. It was heavy rain on and off for the rest of the day. We chilled out and drank beer. Cape Tribulation is the furthest north east that we will be going to. It is pretty much all dirt roads from here up to the top of the Cape York Peninsula. We will be going further north than this though when we head up to Darwin.
