Happiness Is The Road
When we woke up today it wasn't raining! Before we left today I left a message in the visitors book complementing the owners and stating how lovely this caravan park is and how it is the best one we have stayed in. When I opened the book a cute little lizard ran out. He must have spent the night there and I appeared to have woken him up. It was just a short half hour drive to the centre of Cairns. We parked up at the marina and walked along the esplanade. The sky was overcast but thankfully there was no rain. We had a good mooch along the esplanade and then walked to the city centre to do some shopping. After a spot of lunch we walked back to the esplanade and to the swimming lagoon. I had put my swimming shorts on this morning in anticipation of a swim. The lagoon is right on the bay and has an artificial sandy beach on one side. It was fairly busy as this is the only safe place to swim due to all the usual stinging nasties that are in the waters around here. The water was really refreshing and I had a good swim. We chilled out by the pool for a while and then we went to find somewhere to stay. The Cool Waters Holiday Park had good reviews so we headed there on the edge of the city. The park was nice and set amongst lush tropical gardens but it wasn't as lovely and cared for as the site at Fishery Falls. By tea time the rain had returned and it just kept getting heavier and heavier. When we ventured out to the amenities later on the ground had become very water logged. We had to wade through the water ankle deep in our thongs (flip flops). I lost a thong in a particularly deep puddle but delved in the water and managed to retrieve it. We went to sleep to the sound of rain and hoping that we wouldn't float away in the night!
