Happiness Is The Road
When we got up the rain had stopped. It was sunny today! After brekky we had a walk along the very tropical looking beach. We then went for a short walk along a boardwalk through the rainforest. There were still loads of mozzies about so we ended up rushing round. After this we headed back to the ferry and our return crossing over the Daintree River. From here we drove inland to Mareeba which is famous for it's coffee. There are a few coffee plantations around this area and we chose to go Jacques Coffee which as it turns out was an excellent choice. We had originally intended to go to Skybury Coffee but we couldn't find out how to get there. We saw a huge full page advert for them boasting about how good they are but unbelievably it didn't state where they were. It simply said that they were 1 hour from Cairns and gave no street address or directions! How stupid! So we went to Jacques Coffee Plantation instead. They were a few kilometres off the main highway and we drove down through the lanes and eventually saw all the fields of coffee plants and also loads of fascinating termite mounds on the way in to the plantation. The two guys at the coffee shop were really friendly and we ordered two cups of long black coffee. We sat outside and tasted the coffee. It was absolutely delicious and it had a great intense flavour. They had a beautiful garden next to where we were sat and there was a beautiful orange tree in it. Whilst savouring our coffee we got chatting to one of the guys about all things Australia, our camping adventures and crocodiles. He told us that it was mainly Germans who got attacked by the crocs. They had started putting the crocodile warning signs in German as well. We had noticed this as the signs had a big ACHTUNG on them. Despite this though the Germans apparently were still being eaten. He said that the Aussies weren't bothered though as they hated the Germans! Maybe the crocs really liked the taste of talc?! Slightly high on caffeine we left Jacques along with a packet of their finest coffee. We then went to find a camp site in Mareeba. We rocked up at the Riverside Caravan Park and it looked pretty quirky and we got a site here. It was full of tatty cabins and extremely quirky luckily without verging on the scary! We chilled here for the rest of the day.
