Cristina arrived for Carnival weekend!
Cristina caught an overnight bus from Cuenca and arrived in Tena at around 6:30 in the morning. She didn't have long to relax before we were off on a white water rafting adventure on the Jatuncocha river! This was the first time she had ever been white water rafting and before we got in the boat the guide pretty much scared the crap out of her giving her the safety talk of the scenarios that could happen! After being told they have the greatest safety in all of Tena we got about a kilometer down the river and picked up two girls from a community, one of them was a volunteer from the US. But we were short one helmet and one lifejacket....... So the guy gave one of the girls his lifejacket and the girl from the US had no helmet and didn't get the safety talk..... Safety first eh!!!
So only one person ended up falling out of the boat and you can guess who it was, Cristina!!!
It happened in some pretty rough water and she was under the water long enough for me and the guide to make eye contact and then she popped out!!! Thank God! I was much more panicked then she was after-the-fact, she said she wasn't scared at all the whole time! We stopped for lunch at a cool little community on the river and after we left the sun turned into clouds which turned into a storm with pretty strong winds and rain against us as we headed down the river. It was a pretty awesome day and we had a blast. I don't have any photos of the day because they are still on the disposable waterproof camera.
