Cloudy Cotopaxi
What we woke up to this morning was a very rainy cloudy day but we had already paid so we were off to Cotopaxi! After we had breakfast, stopped to buy gloves and snacks because we did not have any. We headed up the road to the parking lot where we would start trekking up the volcano and still had not gotten a glimpse of it.
By the time we get to the carpark the clouds kind of look like they might be breaking up just a little. Mom was a trooper and started trekking up the volcano and just for about 10 seconds the clouds lifted so we got to see Volcan Cotopaxi!!! I managed to get a pretty decent photo which I am quite proud of but right after that photo the clouds came in thick and stayed thick the rest of the day..... Mom asked the guy how far do you think I've gone so far and he said about 33%......
Well she decided she had done enough volcano climbing for one day and headed back down to the warm van..... Smart lady....
For me, the rest of the trek was quite disappointing even though you always have to make the best out of a bad situation. After arriving to the refuge, the group hiked up the volcano another couple hundred meters or so, made it to 5000m, took pictures and headed back to the refuge where I made a funny little snowman and we all took a group photo with the snowman. Then both the phones died and we got no more pictures of the mountain biking down the road. I managed to only come close to wiping out only once so I was pretty impressed by that.... Haha
We biked back down to a little lagoon and then headed back to Quito. Really hoping as we were driving away the Clouds wood lift so we could see the volcano but they did not. Weather was not on our side today, but it happens, and we still had fun! We got a recommendation for a hotel from two others on the trip with us so we followed them to it and pre-booked the hotel for our last days in Quito. Back in the old town we went down to La Ronda for dinner and found a bar with good live local music
