We woke up at 6:40am and sleepily walked to where the wallabies should be. There were two fairly large ones and then an old lady called us over to her caravan and around the back, a female was feeding off grain that they had put down. The next morning we awoke to bird noises and opened the van to see about 20 Gallar parrots (grey with a pretty pink head) and some noisy jackdaw type birds, and some huge grouse all next to the van. We set off for the outback. The rainforest and rain was left for a dry, arid, red earthed landscape with termite mounds all over. The road soon lost its asphalt and we were soon worried for the van. We drove further up into the tropical north to Cape Tribulation where the rainforest meets the beach. It was a lovely drive up but persisting it down so we went to Dragonfly café for a latte and then to PK's for a beer and watched the rain bucket down. Cairns 23/10/04 We went to pick up our campervan and left Cairns in the first rain we'd seen in Oz. It was heavy rain, rainforest rain in the rainy season. The 'Campette' is a small transit convert (a bed stuck in the back) with all the camping gear with air con. It runs well but it's no Delia.
