Ian & Claire's Adventure
Cairns 23/10/04
We went to pick up our campervan and left Cairns in the first rain we'd seen in Oz. It was heavy rain, rainforest rain in the rainy season. The 'Campette' is a small transit convert (a bed stuck in the back) with all the camping gear with air con. It runs well but it's no Delia. We headed straight up along the coastal road to Port Douglass. It's a really nice place with a small town hippy feel to it. Unfortunately it rained most of the time so we walked around the shops, saw some great native art, and pretended we had money for an arvo. Later on we treated ourselves to an ice cold Aussie G&T (Bombay Sapphire and lime of course).
At the campsite there were loads of beautiful parakeets in the trees. It was very hot at night so we had to rig up the mozzy net inside the van and had the windows open. Oops it rained again so all the bedding got wet. We soon bought ourselves an extension cable, a fan and a lamp to rig up at night. (luxury)
