Ian & Claire's Adventure
We woke up at 6:40am and sleepily walked to where the wallabies should be. There were two fairly large ones and then an old lady called us over to her caravan and around the back, a female was feeding off grain that they had put down. We had breckie while watching another one grazing next to us.
We then went to Yungaburra to the monthly market, mainly tat but we bought a huge pineapple. Next we drove to Mount Hypipamee National Park to see a big crater and waterfalls. On the way down to the falls a short black snake slithered accross the path, which freaked Claire out a lot as she nearly stepped on it.
We next headed down to Malanda via Atherton for some meat for a BBQ. The campsite was noted for wildlife so we arrived camera ready. The campsite was pretty grotty but there were lots of odd looking turkeys, balck with what looked like spray painted yellow and red heads. later we heard a bird song, proper rainforrest cackling sound and there were 2 coocaburra in the tree next to us. We went to cook dinner (which was a bit of a palava as the bbq was filthy so we had to vcook on the griddle pan.) Just as it went dark we heard some parrots chattering and then some cicadas in the distance. Suddenly the whole place became literally deafening with the cicadas all screaching in the trees around us, crazy(it sounded like a b movie ray gun). luckily it only lasted an hour or so .So we sat in the van as it was so loud we had to cover our ears.
Ian got stressed when we went to bed because he found a huge spider (three feet wide.....) on a huge web (30 feet high) it'll have yer eye out!
