Ian & Claire's Adventure
We drove via Townsville into the outback to Charters Towers, an ex-gold boom town. It wasn't as Outback as Chillagoe and a bit of a one salloon town. We heard our bad news about the boiler so we dropped into the local aussie pub for a pot (1/2 pint of beer) and bought a bottle of gin on the way out.
On the way to our 'out of town' campsite we passed a flock of hundreds of flying fox bats hanging over someones garden (most likely their mago trees). The campsite was a really nice place with black Macaw's in the trees by the shower, dozens of lorokeets (brightly coloured parrots) chatting and swapping trees and reliably ending up in the palm trees by the swimming pool. That evening as we cooked dinner we ran out of gas and attempted to cook over the bbq while slowly getting drunk and phoning the parents about the boiler. After a couple of g&ts we were joined by a possum(we named him Peter Possumthwaite) on the roof of the camp kitchen and in the morning, loads of butterflys around the van
